Giving plants a voice was the exciting start to the first NST workshop for Gr 4 teachers.
The Primary Science Programme (PSP) runs regular teacher development workshops at Edith Stephens nature reserve https://www.psp.org.za/about/. The Hands-on-Environment Project (HOEP) offers teachers the chance to bring their class to the reserve and have an outdoors lesson. PSP have excellent Gr 4-6 NST materials for sale. https://www.psp.org.za/materials/

It was very interesting that you can design a question for plants and get all the answers by looking at it. Coming to workshops like these, you gain a lot from the people from other schools. We share and you get a better understanding of some little things that we take for granted. Khuselwa Ngece Gr 4 NST Enkululekweni Primary School

I enjoyed and found it useful to work through activities that can be used for a practical test by looking at all the processes and how it is broken up. The activity on ‘surviving’ was very innovative to bring out discussion on the life processes Brian Abrams Gr 4 NST Surrey Primary

Awesome lesson: very interesting and well planned. The activity making an animal was exciting. It has been a wonderful and eye opening experience. I have learnt a lot and will definitely use some pointers in my class. Thank you Noluvuyo Ngada Gr 4,5 and 7 NST Noxolo Xauka Primary

The workshop was very fruitful and will helped teachers to integrate more with the other learning areas. For example English spelling of words and writing sentences to show that they know what the words mean. Tandiswa Xanywa Gr 4 NST Abedare Primary

The workshop was very informative and I found the new information fascinating. The practical exercises were useful and valuable. There was so much new information about plants that I didn’t know and now I can pass this onto my learners Fadiela Slamdien Gr 4 NST Parkfields
